Author: Karl K (Timonium, USA), 27-09-2024 06:03 Like Fight with what you find – a great exploration map - Lakeshire Tavern I played this map as part of the “Coming Home” campaign, available on this site. I’m not clear whether that includes the fixes Fawahar posted in this thread or not.
I did not notice that the purpose of this map was to fight the Genies and acquire the artifact until I came here and read the description: “The best pub in Erathia was invaded by Imps! The worst of it, they've found the hidden cellar and its stash of arcane wine. Drinking it to forgetfulness the imps turned to evil Genies.Your Majesty handled the task over you - find and destroy the nasty Imps before the amounts of magical wine are gone!”
In the campaign, this is not in the scenario description or the opening dialog, so I assumed the genies were just a difficult quest and conquered the world instead.
Despite not being designed for it, this was a really fun map to conquer. While map #1 was actually impossible for me on Impossible, this one was perfectly balanced for a blind playthrough. I could see all kinds of things I was doing inefficiently due to not knowing the map, but by scrambling around with intense focus I managed to survive anyway.
It’s very fun to decide how to divide your efforts between the land and the water. For example, slow creatures are better on a boat where they don’t slow you down, Mysticism is better on water because there are no wells or cities. Exploration is faster on water but you find more units on land. Being able to explore on water right from the start is a fun concept for a map. The enemies are strong enough that you are pushed to keep exploring, rather than land to conquer, which is a fun adventure.
This map is probably much harder if you didn’t pick up Navigation on the previous map, which I got out of a random witch hut.
Due to all the flotsam you find, this map has a severe imbalance of wood to stone. I probably purchased 80% of the stone I used in the marketplace. This was a fun thing to get used to and it also meant that my towns’ development was slow since none of them start with Forts. The fun thing about that was that the majority of my fighting forces came from capturing lairs, making me fight with a hodgepodge of unrelated groups.
Probably four out of five combats I found (and many of the ones I won!) were “the odds are overwhelming”, but the mobility of navigation just lets you travel the globe looking for the few winnable combats that can give you an edge. This really makes your experience on the map exploration-centric – you don’t just land on a continent and stop sailing, you don’t clear each island immediately but return when you are stronger. Very fun.
A mystery: One of the signs on the map reads
Morgul pass: North-West
Dragon's outpost: North
Mellercall's Obelisk: East
Pobiti Kamuni: East
I assumed “Pobiti Kamuni” would be explained with another sign when I found it, but it turns out to be a Bulgarian petrified forest/stonehenge. So it’s a sign for tourists. I was not able to find out who Mellercall is, though.
Travel is set up in a fun way so that I got pushed off my home island but was able to find unguarded cities on other islands while the enemy heroes were out sailing. Then the computer did the same to me and I fought a delaying action while hunting the other enemies. I ended up with my last near-thing battles being on the last 3-4 turns of the game – somehow, this map structure managed to have zero cleanup and all good combats. I’m actually glad I didn’t notice the artifact path to victory. Really fun map, Fawahar rocks.

Author: Fawahar (Varna), 07-12-2016 18:00 Author - Lakeshire Tavern I've just made a revision of the map, fixed the last issues and expanded the Game-play. The final task is now also 25% easier to achieve. Enjoy - download from my google account: https://drive.google .com/file/d/0B6jOay9 uJm-WalFmVkNxVzVBRE0 /view?usp=sharing
Spoiler alert screen-shot ;)

You will have to manually fix the google link if you copy-paste. There is three gaps when published here on maps4heroes. Just paste it and delete the gaps. 'May Chuck Norris forgive this poor technology on Earth.'
Author: Daniel (Athens.Greece), 02-12-2016 17:28 Nice place for the grail - Lakeshire Tavern Overall I enjoyed it never mind there are few things to be touched, like the border gates where tower is can be plundered by sea.

Thank you for that input, I'm working a lot lately and can't afford to run any map check more than few times. The gate detail somehow ran away from my sight. Hopefully will have more time in future. Meanwhile you can fix this by adding some water stones in the area. Cheers!
