Answers - Reaper of Souls
You need to use pit lords to make demons in fights before this quest guard. I don't recall exactly where you find them, I think it's not far from the beginning of that act.
In regards to strength of guardians, you would be surprised how much potential you have in terms of combat, so much so that this map is passable close to lossless. I personally didn't achieve that, but you can check out the playthrough on this channel out of curiosity: https://www.youtube.com/@charlotteashley38 (remove blanks if any).
While in a more conventional playthrough (what most people finishing this map were able to achieve) some fights are very difficult to play with little losses, most fight can still be. I don't recall this exact fight, but I don't think it's one of the more difficult ones.

PS: keep in mind that guards on this map grow in size with time, so while you may accumulate army to compensate (provided you keep your losses to a minimum) the time still works against you

I'm sorry I probably still don't understand your question, because the answer that comes to my mind feels silly - yes, you'll have to fight them if you want this statuette. Although, if in exchange for it you are only offered experience, then you can skip it. I don't remember (played it a long time ago), but I might have skipped this fight when I was playing because it would take me too much leg work to go for it.

Probably you are both slow and doing something wrong (i.e., losing many units in fights).
Most neutral creatures on this map are set to grow and balanced around it, so the longer you progress, the greater their numbers will be, but also you are expected to have a greater army as well. Looking at your screenshot it seems that you've been losing troops a lot.
In regards to the speed, Marcel is a better judge of whether it's crucial or not, but there is definitely a soft time limit for you to finish the 4th act. If you don't make it in time, you won't have AAs dwelling in the castle that you take in Act 4. As far as I can tell you are already quite far behind the schedule on that one, and you probably will need these AAs the most.
I'd have to guess that either you should give up or restart the map and this time do it as lossless as possible while also going at a decent pace. You'd want to finish Act 1 in 6 months (at least by the time on your screenshot, you are probably a month or 2 away from doing it here). Being very low on losses in most important troops is essential because if you aren't, it's getting harder to be lossless in every next fight, which eventually turns into a situation like you have with these birds.
It's a great map though, I wish you don't give up :) You progressed far enough to instil hope, I think. There are at least 2 playthroughs of this map that I'm aware of (sorry if I forgot someone). Link to mine should be below in this thread somewhere, and there is an absolutely mindblowing playthrough in-progress that you can find here: https://www.youtube.com/@charlotteashley 38.
Her playthrough is going to be extremely hard to replicate, but it's an amazing treat to watch. Mine is easier to follow, but it's far less entertaining and awe-inspiring :D Checking out her playthrough is highly recommended though just as an eye opener and as a source of multiple tricks you'd want to know.
FYI, if I recall correctly she finished Act 1 in 3 months :) For comparison, I did it 6 months and a week roughly.

If you have stables, logistics, pathfinding, and nomads, the only reason you can't get to the boots must be that you have a slow unit that reduce your movement. I don't see any other reason to slow you down. Give the fastest unit (and only that) and it should work. Of course, after getting the shoes, you have to escape through the town portal.

Hi. This fight isn't as difficult as it looks like. I am attaching a photo of my army. I have a phoenix to cast a spell before the movement of azure dragons. I cast mass shield and reduce damage by 30%. Later mass stone skin and bless to have maximum damage and azure go down. I loose only pegasi and some ents.

Hi, thanks for the reply, I still have to reach the butcher and for that I think I need the stoic watchman, here's my quests list. Cleaned everything I could reach, captured Wortham and got to the stoic watchman quest gate, also cleaned the rust dragons for armor of wonder trough the secret passage behind the pegasi dwelling. Now I was looking for another secret passage or teleport or quest that could get me anywhere near the stoic watchman or the butcher (only quests I got left for now), got blocked at the sea east of Wortham by the black border gate and checked if I can go anywhere out of the conquered areas and could not find the exit or keymaster's tents or anything that could get me to the butcher or stoic watchman.

Found it right there, wasn't aware that there was one more stoic watchman quest later. Great map, hope you'll make more :)
Author: wasilix, 05-08-2022 09:41 Like - - Reaper of Souls It's a pretty difficult map. I reached Skeleton king some time before Marcel, but was also unable to beat him without reinforcements, and only did it after dealing with Marcel.
The Marcel fight is based around crowding the castle with your troops so that there was no spot for dragons to land in :) Water elementals will help with that. After that you can use your shooters and towers to do the work while everyone else stands still.
Speaking of deadlines, this map doesn't have a hard one, but there is a soft deadline that's pretty difficult to reach. I think I only had about a week to spare. This deadline is mentioned at some point during the game (something about you needing to capture castle before day 400 something). Not doing this will leave you without Archangels dwelling in that castle.

There is a trick involved in killing Marcel. You need to be fighting him in town to use it. Hint: there is something you can do to make sure that his dragons can't come inside the walls :)

6 casts sounds about right. Did you fill all 7 slots in your army? Also, keep in mind that you don't have to fill entire ground - you need to make sure that there is not enough space for dragons there, but you can leave 1 hex and there.

I played this map some time ago, but I think I remember it correctly. #2 I personally killed both, but they aren't probably required for a walkthrough. #3 you will find closer to the end of this act. #4 doesn't progress you (if you mean the one needed for act bonus).
You should indeed go through devils. Your comment about thousands though is confusing. Perhaps you are going very slowly, because I don't think I had anywhere close to that number of them. Still - that's where you need to go now to progress further.

I see. It's in the secret area where Dracon is imprisoned. Hidden to the left from the castle. To enter this area you need the white tent and some titans. I don't have editor at hand now, so I may be wrong in where it's located, but I think that the entrance is hidden in the area before gremlins dwelling - there is only 1 on the map, I think (look for water, you'll have to embark on a ship there). Let me know if you need more help.
