However, when the computers in the north attack me during month 3 they have so many creatures I simply get overrun. I am playing the map on impossible difficulty, is it only meant to be played on normal or hard?

Try it on an easier setting.
Or try the ”easy” version of the map.

The map is nice, plays smoothly, has some decent details. But the difficulty is quite easy even on hard mode. Definitely one of the better maps to play with your friend / family. Can be finished in one sitting easily.

Well, there are multiple options how to make it harder.
You can add more heroes that can invade the land, the underground is pretty empty so you can just add small land with time-locked gates, one-way portals and powerful invaders.
Also one thing I noticed is that Berserk made most of the fights quite easy. So you can remove like Berserk, Blind, etc. That will bump up the difficulty quite a bit. And if you hate the players, you may add it to the spellbook of enemy heroes - so that the player can basically never learn it.
