He actually explained it, and even though I would prefer to play a badass armorer in the late game, he definitely makes a good point. With his selection of skills he tried to make all heroes roughly equal in attractiveness, that's why he gave garbage skills to armorer heroes (because they are hands down strongest even with subpar skills in the endgame) and also subpar or bad skills to other strong heroes like orrin.
Just learn to appreciate the maps as they are. You can also use starting heroes. You can develop them whichever way you want if you really have a strong desire for specific skills.
I dont know man, it really hurts the playability and many players will lose interest because of this.
If the heroes must be balanced, a better method would be to put the good heroes further away and behind stronger locks. Element Land does this succesfully.

I think Element Land is a poor example from a balance perspective. Its concept in general is extremely difficult to balance and the map proves the point - whichever faction has easier path towards its 1st significant power boost is by far stronger and will snowball immediately. Even though it's a great map and a lot of fun to play.
I appreciate that you would want to pick skills yourself, and I was upset too when I saw what skills author picked for Tazar. That said, his reasoning is very good.
This map is built both for singleplayer and multiplayer in mind. Delaying a strong hero (say, Tazar) would only delay a moment when the balance gets broken, not the balance itself. In multiplayer you can't really expect that everyone will get to use the best heroes, so many heroes need to be roughly on par to make late game more or less balanced.
That is not to say that this map is perfectly balanced, it's far too difficult to judge for me, but I think that the author approached the balancing matter very intelligently (and also meticulously) and in regards to heroes' skills his idea sounds extremely reasonable and succesful to some degree.
While it's a bit disappointing not to play your favourite hero with your preferred skills it shouldn't be a deal breaker in the end because most maps don't provide this freedom either (often you don't get the hero you want or skills you want). Here at least there are many heroes with solid skills pre-built and your starting heroes have all the freedom in terms of development.

Just farm a strong stack of whatever you like: demons or fangarms. There is a horn somewhere and you can farm demons off all the meat you can hire and recruit on the map. 100k of whatever you farm with an ogre fist will be plenty enough to kill her.
Other than that you can just skip 7 days after you kill everyone else and she will die.

I would say that the envisioned approach on the map was to play multiple heroes.
For example during my singleplayer runs as well as multiplayer walkthroughs, I had 3 heroes with the same stats, I used them for different purposes, for example I need Expert Fire for one boss, Maximum Attack (like Corkes/Crag Hack) for another and 3rd is typically a PvE hero who is moving fast.
During regular PvE they can clear late game zones at the same time, for boss battles I pass the army to the hero I need to take out the boss.

Теодора быстро прокачиваем по магии и 20+ уровень, открываем дипломата... Дипломат нужен чтобы присоединять ангелов-архангелов и чародеев- архимагов тоже... Читаем белую палатку на 2-м месяце 2 неделя где-то, потом заклинание полет за 70+ магии, сферу уязвимости в центре подземелья, после белой и полета - Арчибальта берем - хотя зачем? Нет, лучше взять и им добываем рог бездны... Открываем Нила. Арчибальтом убиваем Мефалу - а Нил забирает приз(+99 защиты и другое). По дороге максимум собираем рогом бездны фанагрм. И на 108 день результат на картинке...
+ герой Мефала и еще там есть герой где три города вместе стоят

За синих, как можно быстрее 20 уровень и дипломата раскачать... Как можно быстрее побольше денег и присоединять в основном ангелов - даже если 25% их присоединяется, то это лучший отряд в команде! Клон и 200-300+ Архангелов - и можно плыть там где 100 лазурных и 331 сказочных и т.д. - пробивать путь к таверне! Только обязательно собрать колодец волшебника - без него там делать нечего... Там за ящиком пандоры крылья ангелов. Затем топор ускорения и желательно отдать топор ускорения герою Терек - тогда без всяких других артефактов таким способом как у меня на картинке трепаем последнего героя... Я, к сожалению, потерял Терека и теперь приходится выдумывать героем без тактики как подставлять змий под удар...

5. Archibald access (Dimension Door + Necromancy)
Maybe I forgot something that is a gamebreaker.
Author: NH, 07-09-2024 23:15 Like Abuses - Might and Magic Hm, I think I had no hardly abused fights, but there are some cheesy ones:
1. Water elementals (with up stack) guarding portal in starting zone can be done on Luna with like 11 sprites.
2. Earth Tome is doable on 75 enchanters, 10 Archangels, 370 mummies and some clones with only mummies lost. I think it's mostly about getting really good RNG with enchanter's casts and timed miss morals, but I also used stuff like Rust dragons breathing their own Olgoi stack.
3. All of the Faerie dragons fights in Fairie Pools were done the same way: Anti-magic enchanters first round -> Force Field and kill every stack except the first one -> bait the remaining's stack spells with resurrection / summons -> run around with enchanters until AM drops and resurrect them after. (Had like 250 enchanters on 20-20 stats hero with resurrection which Uland gave me).
4. 600 Titans fight is kinda interesting, it's doable on just 25 Archangels, 50 Faeries from the box and some meat stack to tank first round. It turned out Archangels clone can almost outheal damage of Titans under Air shield of you have about 30-30 stats (you kinda have to make them shoot dragons tho). After my dragon's casts were spent I used dragon's clone after waiting for double cast.
5. 1500 Archs for wings are also doable on previously mentioned 250 enchanters and 50 Faeries, used Force Field + dragon's clone after waiting for double cast. You can also roll your main dragon's stack casts by waiting/skipping turn until you get some powerful one like Chain lightning or Meteor shower.
And after getting wings I think there were not much abusable fights as I could just farm lots of resources for enchanters in quest hut.

Author: NH, 06-09-2024 22:04 Like The best HotA map. - Might and Magic And if someone might find the title too "loud", I'm pretty sure there are no maps close to this one, at least in hero chainings and overall logistical aspect of the game.
After my first game with inferno, mostly running around and exploring the world (as were mentioned by comments below, zone design is great), I decided to speedrun the map and it felt great! If most of the SoD maps are kind of "conservative" in giving you spells like TP and DD due to their size (XL is just not enough for 4 DD heroes), here at the lategame you would have like 8+ heroes with expert air/earth and all adventure map spells, and all of them have stuff to do! TP is available on ALL heroes (I personally really like this idea, most of the maps were just unfun before you get it), and there are multiple balanced ways you can get remaining Fly and DD spells. Overall progression is nice and not rushed, you have enough space to use your tools and you actually "feel" how you get stronger.
So, for my speedrun I chose Flux (I believe its the strongest because of enchanters, conservatories and early access to Earth/Water Tomes and Admiral's Hat) with Aenain as my starting hero for bonus sorcerers stack (nice addition to 750 leprechauns for clover and 200 satyrs in a box near whirlpool which then managed to take Sea Captain's Hat without main army). Also rolled starting save a bit for logistics in witch hut and first size 2 consa in Water Domain.
In short my main timings were: 123 - Admiral's Hat; 125 - Earth tome; 127 - Water Tome; 133 - White tent; 136 - entering Faerie Pools; 142 - Angel Wings; 143 - freed Archibald; 144 - DD scroll and God of Might slain; 145 - All-Knowing slain; 147 - Final fight vs Pandora on 165k fangarms (3 last fangarming turns took like 10 hours in real time, loved it lol). Got 28 days result, but I believe even with my pathing you can cut like 1-2 days (if you free Archibald the turn you got wings for example), not speaking of some faster way of progression I didn't think of.
To conclude, this map gives you truly unique experience with all the chaining and decision making, and beautifully looking world based on MM's and HoMM's series just makes this map perfect.

even if I edit the map and give myselff a 9999 stack of archangels I will probably still not make it to pandora in 147.
Like, yes fairy dragons area gives you wings and they are easy to kill with several factions, but from the fairy dragons to Archibald its a lot of terrain to cover then not to mention all the pink towns that are spread in pretty much all the corners of the map, I can't even think of a possible way to do this.
p.s. My own record was getting all 3 towns in one month as inferno which is not even close this lol.

And I think that's another advantage of Flux, one-way portals are really convenient, not speaking of watering place close to them which is +1k moves almost every turn with that many heroes on the map. Green one-way portal leads to area near Archibald's island, so all I needed to free him was some hero with logistics and navigation set up the turn before I got wings.

About the project I started 1.5 years ago... In order to understand
the concept of the map I can share the objectives I set, while
designing the map :
- The most detailed recreation of the lore-based world, featuring
Antagarich, Nighon, Vori, Jadame, Regna Archipelago and vast
undeground world
In order to achieve this goal there was no other option than going
G-size, as well as making it dense in content (while not overcrowded
at the same time) to properly represent kingdoms.
- Engaging author story that follows events of Horn of the Abyss
Thoughtful balance, that addresses main scenario issues and
redundancies, through map design means
- Capabilities to provide an enjoyable multiplayer experience
- Cunning end-game challenge
A couple of important points :
Even though the map version is v1.0, it was tested in singleplayer and
multiplayer from start to finish multiple times.
In case you have questions to the map - do not hesitate to ping me.
There is a lot of things that play out differently and there is a
reason for that. (As mentioned before the balance was calibrated in
multiplayer games as well as a big number of dedicated PvP tests)
The map has 2 win conditions:
Defeat "Pink" until 11-1-1 (Hard)
Defeating Pink's Secret Boss which only becomes available after 11-1-1
(Very Hard or even Game Over :)) (will not spoil the details, but
essential the game has a time limit (a generous one, but you need to
be productive, however it will not end right there, if you do not
succeed, you can still try to put a fight)
