First, the fun parts (spoilers):
- Grindan starting at -23000 XP so you get to use beginning combat skills for longer.
- Grindan seemingly locked to never get Wisdom, yet you feel like you need to play with him because of the Grindan-only gate, so I played low-level spells the whole map
- I wonder if Earth skill is excluded somehow, because I didn't get it on any heroes and played the entire map without Expert Slow, also a nice change.
- Seems like Town Portal is excluded which makes movement more strategic
- The timed gate in the starting area requires a lot of fun strategy to achieve on Impossible
- Removing all your resources at various checkpoints makes for a fun "use-it-or-lose-it" minigame. I always saved and reloaded to spend down my cash, I guess that's cheating.
- The early game makes Dendroids matter some, which is fun.
- Trying to beat Faerie Dragons when you have mostly Dendroids is fun. I purchased an Anti-Magic hero and used Hypnotize.
- Wood and stone being blocked off for so long is fun.
- No wells on the map and periodically robbing your spell points is interesting.
The late game, however, is not so fun.
- Getting to the four corners of the earth for the tents is tedious, since there is no threat.
- It was a fun reveal when I realized that the underground was the mirror image of the first level, but I ended up not finishing the map because I felt I knew exactly how the rest of it would play out. For single player it would be more fun if the mirror world had some twists. And I feel let down because the early game demanded very fun optimization but then I didn't benefit from that optimization in the late game because there was no extra challenge.

Followup - Audaciousness
Another fun thing was finding the Water Tome, a great reward when you don't have Wisdom.
Another letdown was that I kept getting Navigation skill and 2 Admiral's Hat so I was sure the underground was going to be an ocean romp.

Red tent - Audaciousness
The red tent is in the lower left corner of the map, but is not reachable :(
