Author: Marin, 07-04-2025 08:50 Awesome! - Tale of the Scott Brothers I will probably watch the true ending on youtube cause for me this map is too complex, but that's a compliment if anything! I've never played a map like this before where your supposed actions DO have effects on how the story turns out to be. I could finish one of the basic endings in chill mode because I'm a noob (it still wasn't super chill, lol) but no way I can figure out the other endings. Man would I love to see those, though!
Is there any other map from the author on the site? Or any other of this kind? I'm in love.

You probably mean Adam's part 2, a tower with 20 levels? I don't remember exactly my route (you can consult my playthroughs, see links below), but in general a rule of a thumb for Adam:
1. Clear as much as you can in the 1st area before the tower. Every dragon stack in the end gives you more stats, so you'd prefer to kill everything.
2. In tower first go some lower levels, they give decent army boosts (roughly levels 1-5). With them you can start doing many things. Also there is blind on level 18. You'll have to kill some fairly strong heroes there, but if you have stats and gathered most troops you could, it shouldn't be too difficult. One of enemies though felt a bit overtuned in my 2nd playthrough, so I just skipped her on level 18. There is only 1 mandatory enemy to get the primary reward. Also, some keys have duplicates, so for example clearing level 8 won't lock you out from level 18. Most keys have duplicates (they are mostly hidden though), but there are a couple that don't.
Overall I would suggest looking through rewards in editor, but that's up to you. Everyone have different feelings towards looking into editor. It would however make it easier for you to decide which levels to skip, which levels to go first, last, etc.
In future Adam will greatly benefit from having strong magic (big damage spells and high spell power), and decent amount of mana.

Sorry, I'm not sure if I understand what is confusing. I remember there were some big lvl 7 stacks including phoenix, but I don't remember them to be causing any issues. I do remember that a young lady (Toxic something) on level 18 felt a bit too strong on my 2nd playthrough, and I didn't feel like trying her for too many times for the little reward she gives. Other than that everything felt smooth in the tower.
For what it's worth to you, here is the order of levels I took:
3 - 1 - 4 - 15 (skipped white bears in the end, they are optional) - 7 - 9 - 8 - 16 - 18 - 12 - 20 - 19 - 13 - exit
The order shouldn't necessarily be strictly that, there is some flexibility, but I don't have my notes at hand, and I can't say which ones could be done in different order.
If I recall correctly I forgot to take armageddon (don't remember where it is, but it's not on any level I cleared). It would be quite handy later on. I was just already powerful enough to go further with confidence and didn't want to waste any more time on the tower, completely forgot that I didn't yet take armageddon.
In my 1st playthrough I cleared 18 levels in total (I think I skipped levels 2 and 5), but that's definintely not necessary power wise for Adam. Even those I cleared in 2nd playthrough are putting him way above the power threshold.

Unfortunately, due to being unable to get all tents with Hugh was only able to get the basic ending.
The late game didn't feel difficult though - I was expecting much more trouble based on Nietel's comments in regards to missing tents. The early game with both Adam and Tyler I think was more difficult with some pretty tough fights (although Adam can just collect more troops to make fights easier). I played the barbarian, so maybe difficulty will evolve differently for other two choices.

Difficulty - Tale of the Scott Brothers
The initial version of the map which I tested to calibrate the ending part was much different than it is now. It may be worth on my part to take a look into it becoming too easy.
Initially my plan was to make this map approachable by casual players but provide a challenge for better players too to not make them bored. Well you are certainly among the better players, naturally you will find it easier to tear through the obstacles. The basic ending is designed to be approachable by most players. I can only hope playing through the advanced endings would provide some challenge for you! :D Your feedback is much appreciated!

I see, thanks! I used 1.5k cows and 1.35k swords on Crag Hack to decimate everything in one hit. Still had around 600k gold which I could spend on cows (or bears if the quest was repeatable in that version). Gotta find where I could use that serpent fly I ended up dragging along for the entire map :D Probably like with a mage, it was hilarious when I stumbled into air tome right after leaving negotiations, only then realizing that I could use him right away :D Couldn't be more appropriate :)
In my next playthrough I plan to go as fast as I can with Tyler, so that his bros don't have to wait for him in the end.

This map is a Gem! It has interesting fights (trends a bit easier the longer the game goes). What distinguishes it from any other map I played is a wonderful system of choices as well as a funny story line which I enjoyed reading. It's not boring, filled with clever, but easy to get humour. Gets a bit melodramatic in the end, but I loved that basic ending is basically a trainwreck of a disappointment :D
The main hero resembles Zepp Brannigan from Futurama. Kind of a jackass that you would normally hate, but my favourite type of character for light humour.
The system of choices involves some chance/randomness in your decisions. Some people may not like it, but I think it's connected pretty well with life, because the life is also far from perfect in that regard and often throws you a curveball. The map even implements "life" in a sense, sort of your capability of withstanding these curveballs which diminishes over time and with wrong/unlucky choices.
Simply amazing map! Everyone should play it and then play it some more (as I will). Utilizes many interesting and new ideas in regards to map maping. Utmost respect to the author for coming up with something like this. Can't wait to start a more serious playthrough with a goal of reaching a true ending :)

But I might not actually get there, because I can't defeat the Ladder Boss.
I have managed to get all 3 of his troops blinded and cover my 7 with Antimagic so he won't chain lighting to wake up his dudes, but it didn't help - there's nothing I can do to him because the moment I do damage to efreet/phoenixes, he casts Antimagic on them and I cannot do anything anymore since magic is my only real damage and 99 spell power isn't enough to kill any stack other than the devils.
The only strategy I came up with would be to force-field wait out the Antimagic then re-cast Implosion before he recasts it, but that would be the most boring thing possible since his spells last over 70 turns and I just refuse to do that lol. I'm sure there's an actual sane-person strategy to this, but I haven't a clue what that is.
Could be a cool riddle for better players though, lol.

Faced with the same issue. After some testing I see that level 17 hero is required with stables, boots, hole and 10+ speed creatures to pass the water. My hero is level 8. Perhaps if you do tents in different order (this one being the last) and/or take exp from chests you should be fine.
@Nietel, curious if I'm correct thinking that you went there later in your tests, and thus had your hero of high enough level. If that's the case, perhaps some mention of level requirements would be nice for this area same as it mentions stables on monday. I'll probably have to re-do some nasty fights with Adam if I want this tent :D That's cool though. Thanks for the reply :) Indeed, since I posted the message I scoured the map in the editor and figured that I needed to kill Athletic boy (I just tested the fight when got bears, but since he didn't carry anything of value, decided that it's pointless). Gloves reward would put me to a required movement speed. Sadly, there is not enough experience in that area to get to level 17, so I had to skip brown tent.
PS: the map is amazing, someone mentioned here that normally you could see something similar in WoG, but making it with means available in a regular editor is indeed brilliant. Story line and the humor is amazing. I rarely read texts unless it's stated that they may be required for hints and such, which is the case in your map, but I never regretted the need to do that. Texts are top quality and often evoke a good chuckle :)
I may have to replay the map judging by my progress so far - lost 3 lives already, 2 of which random/stupid misunderstanding implications and missed 1 tent, but with maps of this quality it's actually a blessing :D I've had to beat some pretty tough fights though, hopefully I won't get stuck on them next time around :)
