I've been modifying the TOE version after many years.
It is only for TOE. You must have version 3.1 for the script to work properly.
I've installed it on 2 Windows 7 systems. One has an Nvidia 760 card, the other a Radeon R9 290 card. Both have Intel CPUs. It works on both of them.
I don't know if it will work with any mods installed.
I doubt if it will work with bootleg versions of the program.
I don't know if it will work with the GOG download. I think it should assuming they're selling TOE patched to 3.1.
It is not the typical map. You must form a group of 7 creatures, usually from different town types.
You get to see which creatures are set in the towns. If you don't like the group then restart the scenario.
Game tips:
Recommended heroes for each 1st town type are waiting near the town you own at the beginning.
Speed is important. You don't have all the time in the world before the bad guys are released.
Maximize your army growth.
Have at least 2 shooters.
Capture the other towns ASAP.
The barbarians are very different and the heroes don't work well with other town creatures.
Some Barbarian creatures can be in the game but not all since they suck without a good Barbarian hero.
If you don't think magic is important then use high level barbarian creatures. You won't have many spells then.
If you have some Dungeon creatures army morale will be crap without Leadership.
Spoilers:
Send the main hero north to get level 3 then east to get level 6, east to level 5,
then down south to level 4 then west to level 7.
Release the hero at the level 3 prison and have him run around on level 3 then get
a boat and get the sea goodies above level 3.
Send a hero to get the joining level 7s and then take the level 7 garrisons to get more.
Have that hero cross to get the level 4s in the same way and maybe take level 4 town.
The dragons on the island north of level 2 don't fight.
Hell is unleashed on day 77.
More Hell comes on day 85.
More again on day 95.
If you get the Instant Travel scroll located on the map you can jump the bad guys on your terms.
P.S.
I've tried to play around with Inferno/Necro strength and clearly there are procedures going on in the program so that if you give them some creatures, they may get a lot more. I gave it up and just let them accumulate which seems to stop that from happening.
