Author: Arien, 04-06-2016 10:00 Feedback - A Pirate's Life For Me! TBH, I hadn't noticed there were 2 different versions of the map, turns out I did my initial play-though on Hard (this was bugged, as outlined above). Difficulty was low - after the first few encounters with enemy heroes you own the game and can take things at your own pace, which was still enjoyable as there's oodles of things to explore and accomplish.
After posting here, I re-downloaded the map pack, to check if an updated version has been uploaded, realized there were two different files and went to the trouble of comparing them in the Map Editor. As far as I can tell - Expert seems to be fine (it's missing the Green Portal blocking the access to Teal's territory), so I just started that one. It might take me a week or so to finish it though, as I don't have much time to play. Will post feedback in regards to its difficulty once I'm done with it.
Thank you for the update and all the hard work that undoubtedly went into making this outstanding map!
Author: maygwan, 04-06-2016 08:39 By the way - A Pirate's Life For Me! Did you play expert or hard and how did you find the difficulty of the map.
Author: maygwan, 04-06-2016 08:36 i see my mistake - A Pirate's Life For Me! Ya i see my mistake when i was makin last changes to the map. I have corrected it and new version going to send in. So sorry for that.
Author: Arien, 04-06-2016 07:15 Feedback - A Pirate's Life For Me! Gorgeous, rich, intricately designed map with incredible attention to detail, good balance and engaging gameplay.
However, unfortunately it cannot be completed - Teal's home island is completely walled, with no way in. Fly and Dimension Door appear to be banned from the map and the Angel Wings are nowhere to be found either, so the ending was a little anticlimactic.
Author: maygwan (uk), 26-05-2016 16:03 two versions - A Pirate's Life For Me! I have included two versions. Hard which is for regular players. Expert is for the players that want a real challenge. There are differences in each version but the main difference is that hard the cpu are in 3 teams of 2, While Expert is 7 cpu vs you. It's tough i struggled with it and i consider myself pretty good.

expert and hard are two diff maps - A Pirate's Life For Me!
Ya the maps are different in many ways. Notably the expert you face 7 opponents while hard they also face each other so makes for a easier map. But there are also quite a few changes on hard and expert. While i had tested both and completed i did go in and make a few changes and a bush must of slipped which i didnt notice its located at 94,87 i have sent in a fix to the site but before play just remove that object and all will be fine. Would appreciate your thoughts on the expert map and if it offers enough of a challenge. Also i have 4 more maps near completion which should be tough. I will release one soon after more playtests.

remove bush - A Pirate's Life For Me!
94,87 that bush needs removing before you try expert. until the fixed addition is added to site. The green portal i added on hard should of been passable. But removing that bush also works. Ty for all your imput.

portal - A Pirate's Life For Me!
I just tested and in the hard map the portal does block way so the bush will need moving but expert is fine.

Re: Feedback - A Pirate's Life For Me!
As promised - here's a brief feedback after my second play-through of the map on Expert difficulty.
Expert works just fine, all crucial sections of the map are accessible. There's still couple of walled-in small areas that I could find no way into, but since there's nothing of importance inside those pockets - they can be easily skipped.
Map tends to be quite hard at the beginning and frequent saves are required as insurance that nothing will go wrong a week or two down the line. There's also a bit of luck involved as you have to hope that none of the stronger factions will break into your cozy underground hide-out before you have considerably fortified yourself.
Dracula needs to be avoided like the plague until at least month 6 or 7, as you have no chance of amassing sufficient forces to oppose him before then. It is also advisable that you don't lose the bulk of your troops in the battle against him, as this would give the lesser factions the opportunity to crush you once you've been weakened.
However, once you go over that hump with enough survivors in your main hero's army, the rest of the map becomes a cakewalk and you can call all the shots until completion.
Once again - the map is highly detailed and engaging to play, it is easily one of the best HoMM 3 experiences I've had in the past couple of years. I am now looking forward to maygwan's next masterpiece!
